At the end of this session, participants will be able to use research-based strategies and language development standards to enhance literacy instruction. This interactive presentation will explain the importance of classroom interaction for English Learners. Teachers will learn strategies for incorporating classroom interaction into everyday classroom activities in order to meet the needs of English Learners. However, these strategies are beneficial for all students by providing ideas to help teachers build language-rich classrooms. Participants will be actively involved in the presentation and will leave with over 11 classroom-tested strategies that can be utilized with all students, not just EL students. This knowledge will be used to meet the literacy and linguistic needs of all learners in the following areas: A. Explicitly activating background knowledge B. Developing academic vocabulary C. Increasing reading comprehension D. Improving student writing Handouts will be provided.
